  Sergio’s Left Eye Scar Tissue Removal by Dr. Glenn F Oelker on 5/15/2006 (Process for Pterygium Growth Removal by Dr. Oelker’s) Pre-Op Consultation on 5/8/2006 2PM; I was told by staff and/or Dr.Oelker • Eye Patch for 24 hours • Ready for work in 48 hours • Completely Normal in 30 Days Surgery on 5/15/2006 at 4PM • I Arrived at 3:45PM • Dr. Arrived after 4:30 (to clinic from outside); he mentioned that it will only take about 15 or 20 minutes • Technician prep eye • Dr. Applied local “Novocain” • Tried to use syringe (too quickly afterwards) w/”anesthesia” for eye but was painful • Dr. Applied more local “Novocain” • Dr. waited a little longer to apply ”anesthesia” with syringe • Dr. tried to start surgery too quickly, I “fringed”, he waited a little than started up again. • I could see, hear, and feel the cutting. At times it seemed the cutting tool was not sharp enough and it was pulling on my eye ‘scar tissue’ like trying to cut a tomato with a dull knife. • As soon as the doctor applied stitches on both sides of the pupil (and more than he had first planned to stitch) and he applied the finishing medicine to “prevent re-occurrence” too soon, he left the Technician to apply the eye patch. No instructions to care for the eye except repeating the items listed (and mentioned in Pre-Op). • Made appointment to return Post-Op • Removed patch in 24 hours • First week was very painful and very raw/red • I tried to start work a week later, but Eye was extremely painful and raw/red. I called the office, and the technician got in touch with the doctor; he said there is nothing to apply to reduce redness, and take over-the-counter pain killers (.e.g. Advil, etc.) • Raw redness and extreme pain subsided some on 5/28/2006; pain remained. Post-Op. Dr’s check-up on 5/30/2006 at 3PM (w/spouse present) • Dr. looked and said that ‘it is looking good’ and said there was a stitch to remove • He applied local Novocain but tried to cut stitch too quick, I flinched after he ‘cut’; Dr. tried to pull stitch ‘string’ out, but pulled my eye with string since it had not been fully cut. Then he cut it right and pulled it out. I still could feel the ‘pain’. • I expressed my concerns with the eye surgery recovery, especially in comparison with the surgery I had in my right eye in around 1989. He just listened (no comments were made). • I asked if the ‘hole/depression’ left in the eye from ‘cutting’ will be filled back to normal and he assured me that it will after the eye fully recovers from the surgery. • No further instructions or follow-up was set. Post-Dr,’s check-up • 05/31/2006– Mid July 2006: Eye remained very pink with some pain; “hole/depression’ was still visible. 4-5 years later the scar tissue started growing again on my left eye and had to have surgery on it again. This time it was done in Oxnard, CA by Dr Franz Michel in September 2012; and he was more professional, quick recovery, and is up to date with latest technologies and procedures.
